Business Energy Tariffs Capped

The government has unveiled a new energy bill relief scheme from 1 October, where the wholesale price for all non-domestic customers has been fixed at £211 per MWh for electricity and £75 per MWh for gas for six months.

The relief scheme will be available for all UK businesses, the voluntary sector and for schools and hospitals. The discount is similar to the domestic relief measure and should mean business energy tariffs "only" double.

The reliefs are paid by government borrowing, and a mini budget is to be announced on Friday and tax cuts are expected, as outlined in Liz Truss's leadership campaign.
